I'm 27 year old single mother, with my first child.
When I went to the state building here in Alaska, they told me I had to go to My Native health care to get welfare. I told them it is my religion to breastfeed until two years of age. they told me I do not qualify because I'm not available for full time work. Same with the unemployment.
I just started getting food stamps from the State building a year ago, after I had my baby. The lady at the native health welfare office said I have to use a breast pump because she does.
Why can a couple with a baby get welfare if one parent is working? But not a single breastfeeding mother? I'm struggling here and get no child support. Please help!
On the form of the welfare page it states that they will not discriminate against any race religion... I called the human rights, they said the people were in the wrong for discriminating but I would have to file a complaint and to probably get a lawyer. they would then send an investigator and it would take up to a year to process.
We need Money for Mothers! Not for War!
While poorer nations have welfare programs that actually lift families out of poverty, the U.S. can't or won't.
As the text of the nation's cavemanesque welfare laws attests, this cowboy nation excels at punishing women who bear or raise children without a man:
One in four low-income single mothers nationwide — about 1.5 million — are jobless and without cash aid.
