Question:
Why do girls in small towns do nothing but have babies?
2007-07-11 17:54:49 UTC
Is that the only thing to do? They act so proud when they get pregnant too....like they did it on purpose....when half the time they can't afford to have the kid in the first place?

I am well aware (for you who must say this) that this doesn't occur in JUST small towns or to JUST poor people. It just seems more prominent in small towns, and I've been around the country so I've noticed this more in small towns (Midwest U.S mostly)

Because its probably whats expected of them....they don't have a chance to think for themselves other than getting settled down and pregnant ASAP than going to college and getting a life.

You're so very observant. Did you ever stop to think that perhaps why it is so more apparent in small towns is because the town is smaller. In larger cities the 18 percent or so that fall prey to the statistics are more wide spread. I'm a 55 year old grandfather and have seen teens interacting in small towns and big cities. The problems are the same everywhere. The reason that young girls get pregnant is that girls do it on purpose, they're lied to by young men who make all manner of promises to get the treasure they seek. The girls fall for the lies in hopes of getting a ride out of town to a better life. Too late, a large percentage find out that they were deceived and left behind by young men who have no responsiblity and were only after their own selfish goals.

I grew up in a small Midwestern town, with a population of about 500. I moved away to go to college. I'm 23, married, and I do not have children, nor do I want them!

There was quite a handful of girls that I went to high school with that had babies while they were still teenagers, single, living with their parents, and without jobs. The reasons varied from "I'm Catholic and can't use condoms," to "My boyfriend was going to leave me again." Some of it also had to do with the fact that a lot of the kids I knew in high school would binge drink and randomly have sex with each other as well. These, of course, were the kids who all were "good Christians" as well. It also seems that the "abstinence only" sex ed takes place in these areas.

Perhaps it's because people in small towns are less educated about birth control, or because they know that the only thing that they will be able to accomplish in life due to lack of education and money is to make a family.

But it takes two to tango. If a woman gets pregnant, it's not just her fault. Her partner is just as responsible for not using birth control. Lucky for them, they often dont' have to live with the consequences.

I do not see a significant difference in the number of children that people have between the urban and rural areas.

This census map shows that there is little difference.

I know that big cities have more minorities and they have a diffenent birth rates than white people so this map only displays the percent under 5 years of age in the white population.

The map shows that white people living in big metropolitain areas have slightly more children than those living in small towns.

Rural areas are more conservative than urban, good, bad, or indifferent this may cause women to be primarily focused on a family with "traditional" June Clever style (Leave it to Beaver) roles.

interesting though isnt it...that the fancy schmancy women on the coasts who look for nannies to raise thier kids want a midwestern girl or a mormon girl. why whould that be do you think?

maybe because sometimes family is more important than career to some people.

btw...mary was 14 when she bore jesus.

relax and quit griping.

Maybe nothing else to do? Small towns don't even have Cable TV, but now that satellite TV is gaining market share, there might be fewer pregnancies.

Maybe alot of them just want to be mom's for the career and are raised to be family oriented.
