I feel like people put to much emphasis on a name of a person,I named my Son Tyrone, He is white and some people had asked me why I would name my child a black name ,how bad is that? I was really outraged at the time that a person could be so ignorent to such a thing, there is no such thing as a name having a color.I was raised knowing the actor Tyrone Power and he was a good actor , and white too. I chose the name cause I liked it.Oh by the way his twin Brother was named Toby, not Tobias.

Spare us your fake outrage. If you had named your kid Jose, then people would be asking why you gave him a spanish name.

Fact of the matter is, people ask that because theres far more black guys named Tyrone than there are whites. Same goes for Darnell, Reggie or any other of a dozen names - doesnt make it right or wrong, it just is what it is.

I Bet none of yous would of thought that a white skin Tyrone, Tyrone Hughson to be exact would answer on this.

Having Tyrone as a name doesn't mean a thing about the person, its only a form of identification. I've met a English (Posh)(Excuse the P word) who had a Chinese based name. didn't mean he was Chinese. Its the same here, your only being stereotypical saying Tyrone is a black name. You could also say your being slightly racist. So if a black person does think of Tyrone as a black name, then they are definitely out of place. They should just start calling Edwards English people, and Francisco, Italian people!

I would classify the name Tyrone as popularized by black singer Tyrone Davis (hit, Turn Back The hands of Time". It is obvious that the name Tyrone came over from Ireland as "County Tyrone." Probably known well generations of immigrants, but especially by those earlier Irish settlling in the South, including those that became slave holders. The ditect origin of Tyrone Davis, dont know, but I'm sure there was much more to it than just a name white actor Tyrone Power. Whether Tyrone Davis' name is his given name or stage name, it is truly unique in his & later generations of soul singers. and Black first names..

It's a nice name. Not a "black" name, but for some reason many blacks have named their sons Tyrone in the past 40~50 years

For some reason, the name Tyrone has appealed to Blacks. Period. It is actually of GREEK origin. The name Tyrone is believed to derive from the Greek “Turannos” meaning “ sovereign” or “king.” Tyrone Power was a famous White actor in the 30's, 40's. He was Tyrone Power the 4th!. The name started in the early 1800s. His son is also Tyrone Power, as is that one's son. One of them appeared in Cocoon and other movies of the 90s, etc.

Tryone is a location name in Ulster county in northern Ireland, which is believed to derive from the Irish Gaelic “Tir Eoghain”meaning “land of Eoghan” or “land of the noble.” “Owen” is an anglicized form of “Eoghan,” so it also means “land of Owen.”

It is a shame the name has been stereo-typed. I like it a lot.

Toby was the lucky one. Tyrone is typically a black name. In fact, I have never heard of anyone else being named that. I bet you he chooses to go by Ty later in life.

I just told my black assistant about this and he busted out laughing and said, "why would a white person name their kid Tyrone?"
IS IT BECUZ I'M BLACK

For the most part yes. However, I was stunned to meet a white man named Jerome. His nick name was Jerry. I think its because certain names are more common with a specific race.

People ask why I was named after a God.

My brother Jesus' name is used a lot with Mexican males.

Would you name your daughter Lakeishaa?, Fungquita?, Shafreaka?

You knew it was a stereotypical "Black" name when you named him that! Now, deal with it as he will have to for the rest of his life!

There are many black people who name their child Tyrone but that doesn't make it a black name.

Though it's just like if you hear the name Susie..or Beth..the first thing that usually comes to mind is those are names for girls who are white..

But really..it's true..names don't have colour...it's just us humans who like to categorize things that don't need categorizing.
