Question:
Why do jobs/schools not allow body modification or unnatural hair color?

I mean how does having a tattoo, stretched earlobes, blue hair or lip piercing effect your ability to work or learn? It doesn't?
I mean as for jobs, to not hire someone for having a tattoo or blue hair just because some of their customers are intolerant is no different than refusing to hire someone with an accent because some of their customers could be racist or hate foreigners.

By excluding a group of people for the sake of those reasons will never allow ignorant people to learn that people who are different in appearance aren't obnoxious, rude, or irrisponsible people. Some of the most gentle and kind hearted people have body modifications.

The argument that these things cause "distractions" in schools is ridiculous too. How does someone having a tattoo or piercing distract another person from learning?

I'm just finding it ridiculous that people could be fired or refused opportunities based on appearance and not skill.

It is unfair, I agree. But the reasoning behind it is that some jobs feel it is unprofessional to have tattoos and piercings and weird colored hair. Why? I don't know. It's just their dumb way of reasoning.

It really doesn't affect your ability to work or learn but people who hate body modifications are the stupid ones for being so judgemental :( it's so unfair and it should be thought of like racism. The way you can't say no to somebody for a job if they're black or whatever, sorry for my grammar lol, I also hope/think that all the 15 year olds etc now who want piercings, tattoos, etc ... that by the time they are getting a job, HOPEFULLY it will be less strict about all that kinda stuff

I think it's because most jobs/schools go for a conservative and traditional look. Tattoos, piercings, and unnatural hair colors are a sign of individualism and sometimes referred to as rebellion. However, most people have some sort of body modification or unnatural hair color these days. I think more places are adapting to this, but we're a long way from it being accepted by many jobs/schools.

Well, maybe you should just dye your hair platinum blonde but make sure you keep up with your roots!
