Question:
Do Polish (Polska) people say "thanks" less because of their cultural reasons or its just coincidence?

First thing I am not hating on them just curious. I have many Polska friends at work and I hardly find anyone of them say thanks to me or any other staffs when offered help. Last week I held door for five Polish people and let them pass first but none of them said thanks. Later that day during lunch I wished good luck to my Polish friend as he was planning to start his own business back at his country but he didn't give back any reply. I found that kinda rude. Another time was when I opened the door for the new Polish lady at work as she had no card to pass through. She had no smiles no thanks no nothing...thats kinda rude. So how come this be?

No, Polish people are usually very friendly. It is probably out of the awkwardness of living in a country and culture that is not their own. It reminds me of a quote from Barry Lyndon:

You, who have

never been out of your country know

little what it is to hear a friendly

voice in captivity; and there's a

many a man that will understand the

cause of the burst of feeling which

was about to take place.

Try saying "cześć" or phonetically "chesht" (Hello) Like chest but with a shh (like shushing someone) before the "T" when you meet them. I realize many people do not feel like they should make any effort towards foreigners in their country, but the UK could do much worse than Poles, trust me. This small gesture might go a long way.

A lot of polish people that live in Poland sadly have no manners. BUT you also have the group of polish folks who don't mean to come off rude but do because of the tone in their voice, accent and the lack of the English language. They are just so accustomed to their way of living back in Poland. That's probably why. I find that not many countries are as polite as the U.S. Whenever I visit other countries outside of the U.S such as Greece, Croatia, I realize they are not very big on "thank you"

And "you're welcome" or opening doors, going the extra mile like we are here in the U.S. Just an observation!

You probably live in Chicago. Chicago polish people are a bunch of peasant simpletons.

All my Polish friends use the word "thank you."

Maybe it's geographical or maybe it's personal.
