Basically Patel is Gujarati Hindu surname. Patels are landlord. You also find Patel in Muslims but their surname remains 'as it was' from hindu roots.

no its a hindu name..imma muslim and i've never heard another muslims name as patel..but i did hear a lot if hindus with that name..
