Jadhav also known as Yadav is from the Kshatriya(warrior or king) caste. Lord Krishna took birth in a Yadav family.
Yadav is the surname used by descendents of the ancient Kshatriyas of the Yadu clan. Most of the famous Hindu warriors including many Rajputs are Yaduvanshi.
According to the Mahabharata, Yadu refused to exchange his years of youth with his father Yayati. So he was cursed by Yayati that none of Yadu's progeny shall possess the dominion under his father's command. Thereby, he could not have carried on the same dynasty, called Somavamshi. Notably, the only remaining dynasty of King Puru was entitled to be known as Somavamshi. Thereby King Yadu ordered that the future generations of his would be known as Yadavs and the dynasty would be known as Yaduvanshi.

There is miss conception that Yadavas and Jadhavs are same.
But this is not true. There are many references which clearly differentiate these two communities.
Its an international propaganda to mix various Indian casts and try them for religion conversion and in some parts of India seems to be happening.

Jadhav is a Maratha clan in India, mainly concentrated in the Marathi-speaking state of Maharashtra. The word Jadhav derives from the word "Yadav"; the Jadhavs traditionally claimed descent from the Yadavas of Devagiri, who in turn claimed descent from Yadu.
The Maratha are an Indian warrior caste, found predominently in the state of Maharashtra. The term Marāthā has two related usages: within the Marathi-speaking region it describes the dominant Maratha caste; historically, it describes the Maratha Empire founded by Shivaji in the seventeenth century and continued by his successors, which included many castes.
in hiduism they are-
Kshatriya, one of the four varnas (social orders) in Hinduism. Traditionally, Kshatriya constitute the ruling & military elite of the Vedic-Hindu social system outlined by the Vedas and the Laws of Manu. They were in charge of the protection of the Hindu society by fighting in wartime and governing in peacetime

Jadhav is a surname which belongs to the Kunbi caste in Maharashtra. Shivaji Maharaj united all the marathi speaking people under one roof and founded "Maratha Samrajya". If you go through the history then you will know that all those "Sardars" and people who died for him in the war belonged to some lowly caste and identified themselves as "Marathas" fighting for "Maratha Samrajya".

May be yes. The sirname :Nehru" meaning "canal", originating in J&K directly does not indicate the caste but by knowing that this sirname belongs only to kashmiri pandits, it does say that you are a Kashmiri brahmin. But beware, the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru family was a brahmin family only till him and teherafter, i.e Indira Gandhi onwards it is not. After her marriage, though publicly it is not admitted, the family is partly muslim and partly christian.
