Are Europeans more broad-minded about sex and nudity?

It seems that whenever questions are asked about topless bathing or going bra-free, US women seems to get on their moral high-horses.
And if anyone asks a sex question - expect a thunderbolt to strike your computer...or am I wrong?
I am as moralistic as the next person. Just cannot understand sexual hang-ups!

i think the US tries too hard to be an ethical leader or whatever (the whole "city-on-a-hill" syndrome where we want to set the perfect example - look at the war in Iraq: we tried way too hard to be a model of democracy and just ended up looking stupid)...

europe, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have anything to prove, so they're perfectly open about what they want - topless sunbathing, sex, etc. people in the US just sort of hide this stuff in the closet (or bedside drawer) and leave the issue there... idk - i like the european approach (more practical and logical)

and someone mentioned this before, but another thing is that nudity in the US is almost always associated with sex, etc. whereas in europe it's on free display as art... people are also just more comfortable with themselves, so they're not trying to hide what nature gave them... to them, breasts are breasts and butts are butts, nothing more, nothing less...

I don't know if they are more broad-minded, it really depends on the country. I lived in the UK for a couple of years and traveled around Western Europe but it would be difficult to say yes or know about nudity. In terms of sex, maybe so. American women can be very prudish on the matter and to speak about it can bring some stares, but that also depends on what part of the country you're in. I'm from southern California but lived in the mid-west for several years and to be honest, despite its reputation it is easier to hook up with a woman out there than California.

Having worked in Asia for several years, no matter how often Asians describe Asian society as 'traditional' or Asian women as 'conservative' and US society as 'anything goes', you have to lack a pulse not to be able meet a woman. That goes for Japan just as much as Thailand. America is a deeply religious country and very conservative (not in terms of politics, necessarily, but social mores). I think that in many ways, sex is still considered 'sinful' by many and not a natural thing people engage in. Often in the US, people link such broad and often disparate subjects like sex with morality or being an upstanding citizen. Colonial America saw people being put in locks for the crime of "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" with the initials F.U.C.K. hanging under their heads describing their crime. Oral sex between husband and wife is still illegal in the military, believe it or not.

So, nudity? Maybe. Sex? More than likely.

I would rather say we -yes I am a European- are more open-minded than Americans. I was really flabbergasted when a friend of mine got arrested(!) in Alabama for sunbathing bra-less in her own yard. The US is so averse of influences from outside. On the one hand I admire that: their strict immigration laws protect their citizens from being infiltrated by foreign cultures. While Europe welcomes those with different cultures (Muslims, e.g.) without restriction and adapts established European habits for the sake of those immigrants. But a bit more liberty and realism for its citizens would do the US no harm. Times have changed, after all.

Europe is becoming an extension of the Middle East these days. As Europe continues to fall under Islamification, the broad-minded feelings toward sexuality and nudity are becoming increasingly taboo.

I think Europeans are much more broad minded about nudity and sexuality than North Americans.

Yes, mostly they are. However, South-East Europe is an exception to that rule. We don't like public nudity and casual sex, we still have some moral values left.

I prefer those moral high-horses actually.

yes absolutely to us nudity doesn't equal sex it's just natural, i'm from finland that's how we see it, americans are incredibly inhibited and uptight, that's why they all do drugs to feel more relaxed.
