Question:
Why do (most, not all) British hate Americans?

I'm not starting a argument im just wondering.
I hear British people sterotypically calling us dumb and so forth and well genreally mean.
For example when i went on holiday to thailand some nice American folk asked politely for some British people to take a picture, afterwards the Americans thanked them and behind their back i heard them calling them "damn bloody Americans".
I don't get it, why do you we get hated even though we are trying to be nice? I went on a month trip in the Uk before for around a month for a trip and i was simply flamed with insults by some nasty british kids, not all the people since i have met some British people who are the nicest people ever.
So why do most British hate Americans genreally? Is it in their genes or something?

My bf is Nigerian but born and raised in the UK and calls Americans "bloody yanks", but I know that it's just a way of saying; he has many American friends and he has a good heart; it's just a teasing way of speaking; Brits have a twisted sense of humor at times but most of them mean no disrespect.

It's not *most*. Most Britons haven't met enough Americans to form an opinion - they just go on what they see on TV - assume that Americans are accurately represented by their films and the actions of their government (the assumption that Americans are stupid these days is really all about George Bush, who, lets face it, wasn't exactly bright).

People vary. You assume from the few Britons you've met that the majority are like that. Equally some Britons assume from that Americans they've met, that you are all the same too.

There is a certain class of kids around here who'd have insulted you regardless, and would treat anyone who they could mark out as different from them the same way.

Social attitudes aren't inherited through genes they're taught. If you ever have kids, don't teach them that everyone is alike, and the world will be a better place... maybe.

I'm British. Never, ever had a thing against Americans. However, please understand that Americans do their fair share towards Brits. For example, in Family Guy, they insult us by saying we have large chins and strange teeth with a dumb, pathetic excuse of an accent. Both countries need to stop taking the p**s out of eachother. Brits that I know call Americans fat. ><;

I think they always have...I used to summer in the UK in the 1990's, visiting family. And I remember waiting in line to see a concert and the Brits behind me going on and on about how stupid and terrible Americans were. BUT- typically I found them to be very nice and helpful. They used to ask me bizarre questions about Texas (back before the world started hating Texans). They used to be very curious about the Texas lifestyle- till they found out we didn't all ride horses and own cows.

i'm British and that i've got no problem with any individuals. in fact I evaluate america to be an excellent asset to western democracies as an entire. The greenback and human value protecting our values and spreading democracy the place tyranny reigned, is unrivaled via all ecu democracies at the same time. the reason the u . s . a . is unpopular in our u . s . a . on the 2nd is only by leftist media's skewed reporting of activities. usually it particularly is our lesser knowledgeable human beings ,that experience a could desire to belong to a fashion as adversarial to comparing the situation ,that are maximum vocal. a lot of my compatriots that are speedy to sentence the movements and values of america, could desire to be careful what they choose for.i might extremely be Airstrip one million than Tehran 2.

I would put total and all blame on that disgusting president, George W. Bush. He led our country in the gutter in the eyes of our best allies like Canada, Britain and others. So there is no need to blame the people of other countries. What were to they to think by seeing this belligerent, arrogant, idiot Bush get on T.V and waging war with Iraq? I personally never had any bad experiences with any british, it has always been very positive.

They're just full of it. Full of self-hate too. And we're a lot like them in terms of Language, we have some shared history too. But we're not full of self-hate like they are, so they hate us even more lol.

The British are being taken over by Muslim immigrants who see nothing in Britain worth saving, so they don't assimilate. I really can't blame them when the British seem to have a death wish. Not even reproducing enough children to sustain a population that has lived on the Island for thousands of years?

Pretty pathetic. That's one country that's digging it's own grave and is happy about it.

hate is not the right word. we have a rivalry with Americans that`s all.

I used to be in military and we always got on well with the US military even though they thought they where either Rambo or John Wayne lol

We had good times with them, even though they can`t hold their beer lol.

They know how to do a great BBQ though
