What's so bad about living in compton?

Question

I'm from Germany I only been living in america for 3yrs.Me and my husband are living in Washington state and he just got a job offer in compton,ca that will pay more.People tell me that I should not live in compton because it is bad and alot of gangs and robberies go on there.I have a son to take care of and i'm excited about moving there because i don't think it's bad as people say it is they just got scared from "boyz in the hood" i think however is it ok for me and my family to move to compton?

Compton has dramatically improved since the 1980's and 1990's. Although crime is still present it is not like the level seen in the 1980's or 1990's. Last year Compton was the 17th most dangerous city in America. That is 16 places below where Compton once stood, the most dangerous city in America. In addition, there are nice neighborhood pockets in the city of Compton, as well of dangerous city. There has been months without murders in the city, yet, the media does not showed that. So do not be surprised to see BMW's or Volvo's park at residential streets or entering into condos around Compton. Washington State to Compton, California, Compton might be expensive to live;however, it is one of the most affordable places to live in LA. Compton is 15 miles away from downtown LA and 10 miles away from Downtown Long Beach. New development at vacant lots is making a difference too.



NOTE: Compton is not seen by the media as a nice or were good citizens lived, increasing the stereotype by people. Ask someone from Watts about Compton and they would say Compton is worse than Watts. However statically Watts is more dangerous(near Compton).

I can't say I have never been there. I don't know what race you are but as a Black American I believe I should be more worried than you, black on black crime (Compton is a majority black part of Los Angeles, although becoming more Hispanic) is much higher than black on any race. So, maybe you should visit the city first if you already haven't & see how you feel and fit in, just because it's Compton doesn't mean ALL of it is bad and dangerous. Make a trip there for a couple of days and pan it out, you may like. It's improving due to "gentrification."

Listen Compton is the gang capitol and alot of em dont get along in Compton. But so what, some areas will be ok like in west Compton but keep to yourself and dont flash alot of material possessions. ( Its ok to have a nice car and own a house there and everything just dont be stupid.

It isn't THAT BAD, but it isn't great either. It has room for improvement. I remember I'd would pass by part of Compton, and there were some really nice houses there. So it isn't all that bad in my opinion, but there is crime there. I'm not sure how "race" will play a role.



You may want to consider moving to Carson, it is much safer and close by Compton.

Hope it helps, I live in South L.A. (another bad neighborhood) and I hear Compton has improved, but it has ways to go.
