Question:
OC&G community, do you really take the Q&A's on this site all that seriously...?

Some people are so intense with their questions/answers and half the time, I find myself mindlessly answering in order to fulfill what might otherwise be a very dull work-day. Needless to say, I enjoy the majority of the thought-provoking and light-hearted questions meant solely for entertainment purposes, but what's up with the hostility people? Your thoughts...

It depends on the question and who is asking. If the question seems sincere then I will answer accordingly, if not then no. I try not to take the ppl on the net too seriously even when they are racist or small minded. It takes up too much time and energy to be angry/upset. Besides opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one.

It depends. I think there are certain questions which you have to take seriously. There are some people who ask question very intensely looking for serious advice perhaps about important problems such as family life and personal issues. Your answer couId help them so I believe if you're going to answer them you should answer properly.

If you want some form of chat forum there are many out there. I do however enjoy the light-hearted and thought-provoking questions. Hopefully I ask some myself!

Saying that I take everything on this site with a pinch of salt. I would never take anyone seriously. I'm sure about half the people who visit this category's are time-wasters recently released nutters. Mentioning no names...

I think many do take it seriously and get offended. Which is why for instance, a racist question will get a racist answer, even though sometimes the person answering doesn't really feel that way. They just answer to annoy the person who asked the stupid (sometimes) question in the first place, if that makes sense lol. I personally find it hilarious to read some of the questions and answers on this site, definitely keeps me entertained for a few hours a day!!

Fair enough, but Yahoo Answers wasn't created exclusively for light heartedness and general chit chat. It's sole purpose was to provide a question and answers online database for anyone to use, so if people are answering intensely it could be because they are in intense situations or have intense thoughts going through their minds at the time of their questions.

I like to mix it up a little but when I ask a question I'm usually serious because I'm trying to defeat my own ignorance.

Edit:

Sorry Giselle, didn't mean to sound like a lecturer lol

While I take few things here seriously, I mean everything I say. Sometimes I'm being sardonic about it, or just outright making a caricature out of something, but I never say what I don't mean.

As far as other people, I only take them seriously when someone has a view that is just so out of whack that it requires me to educate them. I also feel like I represent downtrodden whitey here, so when I see people being flagrantly and seriously racist, I feel compelled to slap them down.

But, I defend more than just my race. I would be a bigot if I didn't.

All in all, I come here to waste time and entertain people. I think I accomplish that, in all ways.

I like to debate in my real life so, yea, I might get a little passionate about certain things, moreso than others lol. But I do enjoy the light-hearted questions, as well.

honestly, i don't even think so. I come here to avoid doing things that I should be doing, like going downtown to the social security office to update paperwork. It's surrounded by addicts and methadone clinics and I'm afraid to leave my car there to go in the office. So I come here instead of going. And there's a lot of other things.

This is how I avoid doing things I need to do in real life for the moment. Also I'm working on computer stuff anyway so I'm online. I just click over and I'm here.....back home. Ha,ha, just kidding.

Not at all... I've built up a thick skin when reading these Qs & As... Doesn't really phase me anymore. I don't base any life altering decisions from Y!A... Although I do take my contacts' Qs & As a little seriously since I feel like they're good people.

Nope, I mean I find many interesting and funny but nothing that makes me want to answer with a 5 page Thesis with cited sources or anything that pisses me off...it's just the internet.

I'm in the same boat as you, so only take certain peoples seriously and give a thoughtful answer. Except when I'm in the beauty section.

Same here. Y!A just fills my down-time at work and sometimes cuts into my actual work time. But I do try to be thoughtful if the question is on a more serious note.
