You are not black. Despite what the world has told you, one drop of black blood does not make you black. You may have a biracial parent but you yourself are not biracial and are more white then you are black. This means that you are predominately white.

You might identify more with blacks if you were raised around them but the truth is your still a lot more white then you are black. You will look very foolish to a black person calling yourself black. If the shoe was on the other foot and I were 75% black and 25% white and starting calling myself a white person, do you think real or full blooded whites would except me as a fellow white person? Hell no, so why should black people have too?

In societies eyes, you might be considered black only because people have ignorantly believed in the 1 drop of black blood makes you black logic.

You are whatever you think you are. Even if that perception changes from day to day. Some days I feel like the cutest, most hip, luckiest girl in the world and some days I feel like a boring jerk with bad hair. But no matter I am who I am. You know, Halle Berry has a white mother and a black father, but you only hear about her being a 'black woman'. That's because, the black side of her family was who embraced her and her mother. So that is who she identified with most. It's your choice. But really, all of this race is not important, but then you already knew that didn't you?

I can't help thinking that it's too bad that anyone cares.

I have heard that if a person wants to receive benefits for Native Americans (ie: live on reservation, have extra hunting and fishing rights, etc) that they need to be at least 1/16 Native American.

Since you are more than 1/16 white and more than 1/16 black, I think you would be justified in calling yourself either black or white.

In the days of slavery you would have been known as a quadroon (a person who is 1/4 black). I'm 1/2 black (although my father is very light skinned) and I appear white. I think that you should maybe take a step back and look at why it's so important to you to tell people anything about yourself. I think the best to handle it is to tell people (my father's white and my mother's mixed) problem solved.

You answered your own question. Your 1/4 Black and 3/4 White. What else do you want to know?

you're white, I'm 1/8 Cherokee 7/8 white. I consider myself white and so do the rest of the people, my mom is a 1/4 Cherokee yet she is still white. Like you she is three times as white as she is Cherokee (well for you black). You can't be a white poser, never heard of such a thing, us white people here in the USA are more accepting then most people realize or are willing to admit. This isn't the 1860's, everyone is equal.

Except when you apply for college and when you take the SATs you should check that you are black, you will get in easier

In America, you're black. If this was before the civil rights movement, you and me both would have to sit at the back of the bus like everyone else.

I consider myself black, although my grandfather was white. I have light skin, and skin tones in the black community vary so much. If I walk into a restaurant or in public, people just think I'm another light-skinned brotha. No big deal. Believe me, the black community would accept you. Why? Because there are so many like you..it's just a part of our history. It's not as if you fell from the sky. American blacks are so mixed up racially that many other parts of the world don't even consider us as truly 'black'.

Years ago, someone with very light skin and blue eyes who had black heritage could 'pass' and live as a white person. But god forbid if anyone found out they had black blood back then.

I know it's 2007, but America would have a very difficult time accepting you as 'white' if you had black heritage. That's just the lay of the land right now.

A hundred years ago you would have been called a quadroon. If you marry white and have a child your child would be an octoon.

I still haven't figured out why people want to be labeled so bad; you're human at the end of the day
who cares

You are you. Labels belong on items. Don't label yourself, you are human. Just love who you are, and embrace both of your cultures. It doesn't really matter. Labels bring issues.

White or multi racial. Whichever you prefer. But if you have blue eyes, who is going to think you aren't white? Race is strictly based on society's standards on race. Ours bases on different things, but mostly features and skin color. You look white, therefore you are white. You are what you look like.

You are bi-racial. If I were who had I had to choose I would say your white, but, you arent. You should be proud the way you are and not try to be someone else.

Neither.. you have to mark Other...

but my friend is mixed but she is dark and she always marks her self white just to mess with people's heads. Its quite funny.

You should consider yourself Black ,because on day you may have a child an there is a good possibility that they will have more black features than you .
