Question:
Why are Americans so Ignorant about Everything?

I'm just a little puzzled by this. I'm Canadian and I've been to the states hundreds of times. Every time I go and people are aware I'm Canadian, they act so ignorant around me. It really bothers me. I don't hate the US or anything, but I must say that some Americans are excruciatingly ignorant (not to say that no Canadians are ignorant). I just feel like the US doesn't take into consideration that Canada is their number one resource for oil, tourism, and trade. Americans are so quick to judge Canada, and most Americans have never even BEEN to Canada. I could name all fifty states, but if I asked an American to name five Canadian provinces, chances are they couldn't do it. But what really bothers me is how Americans seem to be proud of their ignorance. Some of them seem to be PROUD of the fact that they know nothing outside the borders of their country, and that bothers me. And, I know I'm going to get hate for this, but most Americans I've talked to seem pretty dumb. I mean, the country that practically decides if we go to war is the same country that tried to make pizza a vegetable in 2010. Whenever there's a shooting, they're always "shocked and troubled," but what do you expect to happen with such passable gun laws? What's the big deal with gay marriage? If two people love each other let them get married. What's the big deal with abortion? It's the woman's choice, not the federal government's. Why is religion such a big deal? if you're religious that's cool, if you aren't that's cool too.

I'm sorry but I just feel as if I needed to vent about my frustrations. I don't care if any of you Americans go apeshit in the comments, I really don't. It just proves that you can't handle someone talking down to America instead of the other way around for once. I just wonder if anyone agrees with me.

And, like I said, I don't hate the US. I just think the United States is run on hypocrisy and narcissism.

Most people don't do their homework and believe what they will.

I believe it was Twain who said if one believes everything they read they should stop reading.

It frustrates me to but many kids no longer have a clue and they do seem to relish in the thought that they are smart when it comes

to not only American interests but world affairs and no not everyone but those that do know

In the 70's I traveled with an ice show and we did play Toronto,Montreal, Ottawa, etc Personally I like Canada A few years back my niece got fed up with what is going on here and after a few years she loves it in Toronto, most of all she has great health care for her children that she couldn't get here. I'm now 70 and dying I would be moving myself but I only have a few years left. Some may call her a traitor fact is Canada is taking better care of her and her family then the US I think many people think like you but afraid to say it. I'm not and I did my part military, etc, etc, etc doesn't really count in a country that thrives on profits. I can hear them now but tough, facts are facts if one chooses to open their ears.

First it's manipulative to attempt to quash strong-willed opposition by stating that if we get offended we are ignorant hypocrites. You are obviously extremely ignorant as you have met so few of America's overall population and yet you feel entitled to stereotype us as a whole which is very ignorant (meaning that you, too, are a hypocrite). And second many many Americans are for gay marriage, abortion, etc.. I personally feel that if you are "pro-choice" you haven't delved very deeply into what a portion really is. It is murder to kill an adult, a child, a baby. When does one become too young to be considered human? Just because a child is born does not mean he has more understanding or more brain power or human emotions than he did a day before in the womb. Should his environment determine whether it's wrong or right to end his life? No. So then again, when will the child be too young to be human and considered as one? Never.

And your hypocritical rant is just that. You are accusing 320million people of being gay haters, religion loving people who refuse to allow abortions. You are berating an entire country of people of who you've met only a handful. You wanna talk about ignorance? You realize gay marriage is now legal in 19 states, soon to be all 50. Abortions are also not illegal. Many states imposed a 20 week restrictionm Arkansas is the only state to completely outlaw it. But that doesn't matter because you can go to any other state and do it.

You seem pretty ignorant too.

Not all Americans are ignorant, just a small few. Many Americans see America how it is but it is not all the Americans that are ignorant, it is the government that runs it. They try to make it look like all Americans are with them in their political choices when in reality 3/4 of the population are against it. I am moving to Canada as soon as i can.

So the handful of people you've met , makes you form a conclusion on the whole country. You sound excruciatingly ignorant. The united states is the third largest populated country in the world, so ofcourse we differ on views. More people, more opinions. Don't expect people "to know" you're from Canada. How can someone tell, unless you tell them. Maybe next time you consider traveling south, travel north.. Tell use how Alaska is doing.. Maybe we don't learn as much about Canada, but that's also based on individuals.

..and you're blaming "passable gun laws" on mass shootings? Than the actual person...You're the problem. Come here without your blinders on 'mon ami.'

America is the most polarizing country in the world, so most other countries learn about America, while Americans do as well. Americans in large part are not ignorant, but unfortunately the few who are seem to get a large platform.

Short answer - reality tv. Long answer, Americans listen to talking points and have stopped thinking for themselves.

Schools are not teaching thinking skills, society doesn't encourage debate.

Have you ever watched kids in primary school argue? Lots of emotion but that's about it? That gives you an idea about the emotional and mental level of people you see anymore.

It's sad.

Because the school system in America doesn't teach the students anything about Canada.

So you can ask this question (well, rant) using the incredibly user-friendly (har har) US version of Y!A, of course.

313 million people live here.

Please do not make yourself look like a prejudiced fool by generalizing in this manner.

Because America is ran by immigrants ask any 3 or 4 generation what their ancestry is their simple answer would be "IDK"
