Do any of you live in an area where people brag about New York ad nauseam?

I'm NOT generalizing anyone.... I know there are many nice folks who are from NY. But I happen to live in an area which is "overflowing" with people who are (or who claim to be) from NY and who think that NY is the best at ''this'' and the worst at ''that''.

I'm very well aware that there are a lot of people from various areas who brag about where they're from. There are people here who are exactly as such. But, where I live, New Yorkers "take the cake".

Here's some of the rigmarole that I've heard from New Yorkers (or those who claim to be New Yorkers):

"New York has the biggest rats."
"Black women in New York have bigger booties."
"New York has the best hot dogs; and they taste better than chicken."
"9/11 happened 'cause New York is better than everywhere else. The terrorists want to get at us 'cause we're the heart of America."
"New York women are sexier."
"It gets colder in New York in the winter than in Antartica."
"White women in New York have bigger boobs."

Well I am a New Yorker, I talk about where I'm from because people ask or if what I am conversing about can be related to where I am from. I mean when I talk to my co-workers about the differences of Central Fl to the Bronx, I tell them in the Bronx I knew all of my neighbors in a 3 block radius because I lived in my neighborhood all my life and we were all very tight and here I don't know any of my neighbors and even if you try to make an effort to know them they won't do the same w/ you. I mean it's not about bragging (well the comments you stated above are well. . . .ridiculous except the hot dog one, that's true *smile*) it's about showing pride, & new yorkers we have I guess our own sort of culture aside from our ethnic or racial culture, new york is a culture all it's own and I guess we are just showing pride in that. I know people who have not lived or have been raised w/ that kind of pride it can be daunting or hard to understand. But in a sense it's like, it's how we connect w/ one another (like men & sports) new yorkers connect w/ new yorkers by talking about new york. And when an anumerable part of your life (like mine) was in New York it becomes a big part of who you are. It's not about bragging and I'm truly sorry you feel that way but if an italian told you that they make the best pizza in the world and went on & on to tell you why or went on & on to tell you why being an italian is so great I honeslty wonder if you have the same level of animosity. Would you see it as cultural pride they way I see being from NY?

*** the person above me

just so you know..the city is referred to manhatten where chinatown is located, twin towers, broadway, time square, harlem, saxs on 5th ave and alot of other places ****

im from newyork..born and raised..and i totally agree..new york does have the biggest rats..have you seen one up close the thing was HUGE! it was bigger than master splinter!

i dont believe the bigger booties and boobs therory though nor the hot dogs..but 9/11 yeah its true..newyork has alot of great landmarks..people flock here all the time in the summer and winter, new york is a really beautiful place..if you visited you'd know..and beauty is in eye of the beholder someone from missouri might think a homely looking girl is sexy but in nyc they're just boring..nyc has all kinds of people we see alot..and the colder than anartica thing is just bull...no where is colder than the poles

i think newyork is the best place to live in the united states..especially the tri-state area where im from..i love newyork!

I never hear anything about big rats & booties, but I do hear New Yorkers referring to "The City." What's with that? When I have to pee I go to "The Bathroom," but when I go out to eat I don't generically refer to "The Restaurant." If I'm going to Red Lobster, I'll say I'm going to Red Lobster. If I'm going to New York, I'll say I'm going to New York.
