it seems to be in this country no one stands up for anything, we just accept whats happening and just get on with getting a55 raped by the goverment. As long as we do nothing it will just get worse it seems people are happy as long as they don't miss the x-factor. When the fuel protests were on the public were happy to support them but as soon as it meant they had to go without some stuff they turned on the protesters. R.I.P. britain it's lost it's great, how long do we go on like this?

No, just leave the dump. Anyone with an ounce of sanity wouldn't stay in this cesspit - there's so many other countries out there which offer greater opportunities and greater quality of life. Some governments actually do something with the tax money that the public pays, whilst the British governments charges us astronomical tax and does nothing with it.

I've been living in the same town for thirteen years and the sh!t-hole hasn't changed one bit. There's several pot-holes down the main-road to the town centre that have been there for as long as I can remember. There's bins everywhere and still trash all over the streets, and our bus-station is a hellish nightmare from the early 70s which has never been updated, refurbished and reeks of pi$$. It's also unsafe and normally full of crack addicts - even during the day, our bus station is more dangerous than a night market in the Far East at 2 in the morning. Similarly, we've had the London Underground for years and the subways are disgusting - always filthy, unkempt and either housing the homeless or boozed-up Neanderthals looking for a fight or to rob you.

All kids do here is get drunk, too. That's all there is to do and it's pathetic - a nationwide spread disease of alcoholism and drug abuse. That and our government pays people to sit on their arses. Why are we PAYING people to FIND jobs when half the time they're not even looking? It's either find a job or don't get paid! The welfare system is also a joke which tax-payers are forking out to support.

I don't honestly think this country can be recovered and protests certainly won't achieve it.

If you think we should act like children having a tantrum then follow the French example. When a government has the political courage to "tell it as it really is" the public blame the government. Britain, like the rest of Europe and the west in general is in a 'global market' and trying to compete with manufacturing nations where the workforce are paid as little as $1 per day and where there is no such thing as human rights, minimum wage, health & safety, industrial relations along with a host of other costly legislative measures. We are in debt up to our ears, we are bankrupt, bust, down the tubes, failed, ruined, insolvent,on the rocks. We as a lazy, unpatriotic nation (we'd buy anything as long as it wasn't British) have, with no small help from Chairman Brown, the unenviable position of being the biggest borrowers in the G20.Who do you think should pay this astronomical debt? We can't afford the public services because we didn't earn them. It's themselves the British public should be critical of and not a fresh government which had little or no input for the financial mess we are in. >>>ADDITION>>>Britain lost it's 'Great' many decades ago and has been a Nation in decline since around the end of the Boer war. The real truth is that it is the people who are not meeting the challenge of world competition and the mindless left wing unions are encouraging the weak minded to believe that we all deserve 'something for nothing'. Listen to the bellowing from every quarter," we need more funding", from where does this funding come????? To a greater or lesser extent every public employee is a parasite on the back of the private sector. It is the private sector which earns foreign currency and provides the revenue, by way of taxes to pay for public services. Germany and France both have thriving motor industries. These manufacturing giants such as B.M.W., Mercedes, Audi, V.W, are made strong because they are supported by the patriotic indigenous population. This success at home enables them to finance an aggressive and highly successful export drive to most of the industrialised world. When the 'Rover Group' were manufacturing vehicles they were destroyed by the Unions and the disloyal British. We all like to listen to those who tell us what we want to hear and that is normally from people who live in cloud cuckoo land or have some financial gain or, like the unions a political agenda. Will we British be able to recognise that we are the only a bunch of 'Whingeing Pomms' as the Australians call us and have the ability to roll our sleeves up and start to work and fight our way back into the 1st division? Sadly, very sadly there is no chance of that. We have all become pathetic wimps incapable of knowing anything except "our rights"and how to get stinking drunk.

It's true, Britain has gone down the toilet and unfortunately, no amount of protesting or government cuts will right it.

The French are only going to make things worse for themselves which will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the world so protesting and therefore further reducing the work rate in the country can't be a good thing

The French are up in arms for a two year hike in the pension retirement age. Britain has yet to respond for the extended rise in our retirement age. The French are not timid when riled up that's for sure.

The Government of several decades ago have known about not been able to pay for the retirement age and are devoid of ideas. But a rise is coming make no mistake, and it won't go down well.

There are less people in jobs, and more people in retirement, and this has to be paid for. They have useless think tanks (brainy clever people) working for them but what do they do exactly? Most governments are weak and afraid to implement real harsh methods to solve the crisis.

The mega rich need to be held more accountable and a percentage of their whole wealth taken. And it wouldn't hurt them one iota. To answer your question yes we should have protestations.
