Not that I disagree with you, but actually western europe... not so much. Portugal and Spain were never enemies of the communists really. In fact the communists got us both out of the fascist regimes we were in, so we'll always be grateful. However communism in European countries is not usually as strict as people see it (except maybe Russia). I think Americans have the wrong idea of communism. Portugal's government is socialist by the way, but what's so wrong about that?

Anyway, I agree that they generalize a lot, I think maybe they see Europe as this giant country. I don't care though, I tend do ignore the ignorant.

Probably because those people listen to Fox News which freaks out about the idea of universal health care, which would mean that America would suddenly transform into a Socialist country. They have actually said a Socialist country like Australia because we have medicare.

Well, I have been to Canada many times. That doesn't mean much. But my company has hired 6 Canadians over the last 6 years and not one said Canada was better in any way shape or form. Taxes in the US are half and they get twice the house for the money here. Plus, where we work healthcare is free. And they indeed told me horror tales of your healthcare. So facts are the reason I feel that way. Besides, people wise, Canada is tiny compared to the USA. Maybe 50% more people than Texas. Throw another 250,000,000 people in Canada and 40 more provinces and see how well your health care works. It would be a boondoogle like Obamacare. As for Europe ... "Two Swedish economists recently published a study that asks how European countries would fare if suddenly admitted into the American union. The results? If the UK, France, or Italy became U.S. states, they would rank as the fifth poorest of the fifty, ahead only of Arkansas, Montana, West Virginia, and Mississippi. The richest EU country—Ireland—would be the 13th poorest. Sweden would be the 6th poorest. In fact, the study found that 40% of all Swedish households would classify as low-income in the U.S. This means that poorer U.S. states enjoy affluence comparable to that of richer European states—Denmark is equivalent to Kentucky—whether measured in terms of home ownership, or number of microwaves and cars possessed. “Material prosperity,” the authors write of the U.S., “is high and not associated with the material standard of living which many people in Europe probably associate with poverty. Good economic development, in other words, results in even poor people being relatively well off.” Fredrik Erixon Chief Economist, Timbro

Singapore seems to fit the definition fairly well.

Singapore pursued a state-led model of economic development under the People's Action Party, which initially adopted a Leninist approach to politics and a broad socialist model of economic development[27]. The PAP was initially a member of the Socialist International. Singapore's economy is dominated by state-owned enterprises and government-linked companies through Temasek Holdings, which generate 60% of Singapore's GDP.[28]

The state also provides substantial public housing, free education, health and recreational services, as well as comprehensive public transportation.[29] Today Singapore is often characterized as having a state capitalist economy that combines economic planning with the free-market[30]. While government-linked companies generate a majority of Singapore's GDP, moderate state planning in the economy has been reduced in recent decades.

Because NZ is Socialist, idiot! Read up on how when a State controls every aspect of your life and refuses to embrace individual freedoms it's known as Socialist..... When the State takes all thought process away from the people and arbitrarily passes Laws that the people don't want or support, it's also known as Totalitarianism, which describes NZ.

I'll try to answer you tho i suspect your hatred of all things American has settled your beliefs about us. To most Americans usually us older ones who grew up in a America of do for your self and less Government in our daily lives is Good Government. We see even our Government as being socialist in it's direction it's going. We consider most of the countries you've mentioned as left leaning countries with strong socialist attitudes. Your Taxed to the hilt and the Government has it's self telling you how to live. In England and in Canada you arrest preachers who say that the Bible speaks out against Homosexuality but Muslims can March down your streets chanting kill the infidels and your Government gives them more power. For most of the White people in your countries you curse GOD and have allowed your Government to replace the Christian Religion . I could go on but it would be a waste of space i'm afraid. Once America falls into your ways of life we just as well burn up our constitution which Obama and his chosen are doing a little at a time. The point is our ancestors came to America to escape the Governments of your countries and the more our Government becomes like yours the weaker we become ,so who will take our place to fight tyranny evidently not you as your attitudes is simple you'd rather be controlled than dead. One of our forefathers made the following statement which is > A government big enough to give you every thing is Big enough to take every thing< another one i believe was said by Jefferson or Adams is> those who would surrender there freedoms for security will have neither.

President Johnston wanted to boost the economy, by starting a war. So he fabricated that the Vietnamese bombed a ship. Which launched a war between the US and the North Vietnamese.

By selling bombs and ammo, guns and putting all available men to work, by the draft made his unemployment rate go down. 60,000 young men died, which also brought down unemployment.

Which was an unpopular war? Since it was a civil war between North and South.

So most people had to be sold the idea, if they didn't we would all be communistic. Not really knowing what that means it still sticks today. In one of Johnston's speeches he says if we do not fight them over there, we will fight them over here. Learn to speak Chinese because if we loose that war we will be taken over by the chinese. Well, he was voted out, they lost the war, and we still speak english.

The rich medical insurance companies are a huge business. With only 10% of what they collect spent to actually pay medical bills for people. The rest is huge wages for their CEO's and lawyers.

Some of the fanciest buildings in the USA are Insurance companies. They are big donates to political campaigns. They actually spend more money on advertising, then they do on paying medical bills. They want the American people to believe we need them, and without them we will all be socialists. Living under communistic rule.

Where actually without the medical insurance companies are medical costs would drop 90%.

But you will never seen that on TV.

The UK, specially under new labour, is socialist. That's why we are broke.

Your definition of socialism needs updating. Look at the attached list, go down to member countries, all the countries you mention are on the list as being socialistic.
