ok so i see questions saying that ethiopians are not black or they are black. i am sick and tierd of this bs. i am ethiopian but i see my self as black. i know there are alot of ethiopians that say that they are not black. i hate it when being black is looked as a negative thing. most ethiopians say they are not black becaus they dont want to have the sham that comes with beign black ans slavery but i think being black is good look at all the history of blacks look at what they did and just see. o and also most ethiopians think that whites are all knowing they act like their !#@$#. the only reason they say we are not blacks because they cant immagn a blck race with a great history so ya. and i am not talking about all whites just the rasicst.

I don't see myself as black.

Idk because Black Americans and Africans are two different people with different cultures and appearances. Though I was born in America from two Ethiopian parents I still don't consider myself black like I can't stand by a Black American and say you are my brother cause we're different many Ethiopians may agree even Haile Selassie felt the same. Most Ethiopians in America get soinfluenced by the culture of the Black people in America that they forget their own culture.

Proud Ethiopian!!

Flash News::: I'm happy sum1 as brought this subject up: Open your eyes, learn and get wise:

The all African continent was populated by Black African till the Arabs started invading it from wat's now known as Saudi Arabia, the middle east in other word, mostly to spread Islam, Remember that Africa was connected to the Orients and The Arabs were Nomad /Traders back then..... So when 1st started the Slavery trade, they were well placed to Advise the The Spanish and Portuguese where to go and some cud even speak African dialects coz they were always trading stuff like Spices...

To come back to ur Question some Ethiopians,Sudanese and Erithian look the way they are coz there was a lot of mixed race relation, Arabs and Blacks, so i wud understand why sum refuse to consider themself as Black.....

I won't throw them the first stone, Black is beautiful, Black is good, Black is who wants to be. Don't get drag into any type of argument Head up...

Humanity Started in the mother land...so even our racists of white folks, yeah i do like the White supremacy type of dudes, Shud know We're all African..... you gotta love those that hate you...

Ethiopia's population has grown dramatically in the last several decades, from 33.5 million in 1983 to 75.1 million in 2006.[66] The country's population is highly diverse. Most of its people speak a Semitic or Cushitic language. The Oromo, Amhara, and Tigray make up more than three-quarters of the population, but there are more than 80 different ethnic groups within Ethiopia. Some of these have as few as 10,000 members.

Ethiopians and Eritreans, especially Semitic-speaking ones, collectively refer to themselves as Habesha or Abesha, though others reject these names on the basis that they refer only to certain ethnicities.[67] The Arabic form of this term (Al-Habesh) is the etymological basis of "Abyssinia," the former name of Ethiopia in English and other European languages.[68]

According to the Ethiopian national census of 1994, the Oromo are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia at 32.1%. The Amhara represent 30.2%, while the Tigray people are 6.2% of the population. Other ethnic groups are as follows: Somali 6%, Gurage 4.3%, Sidama 3.4%, Wolayta 2%, Afar 2%, Hadiya 2%, Gamo 1%.[69][70]

Yeah I understand where you are coming from. Some people have told me that I look Ethiopian, but I am not. I have always wondered if they do have any Black in them. Either way people will talk bad about a good looking group of people. Just be happy with who you are don't let it bother you.

ethiopans are black, and they should be proud. the problem with black people's image as a race is that they dont know thier history. black people have a rich and positive history and they need to learn it. africa where the world started, africa is beautiful and ethiopians can deny being black, which makes them look stupid, but to white people and other races they will always be considered black.

I had an Ethiopian run past me in the London Marathon once. I couldn't see whether he was white or black, he was going too fast. Then a gay went by and then a woman. Blimey- what a day.

I clocked 7 hours and 14 minutes. All the Mars Bars were gone.

Most of my Ethiopian friends proclaim that they are Black, just like every else who lives in the Horn of Africa.

I didn't even know this was an issue. If anyone should be ashamed of slavery it should be whites. I however do not think that I can be responsible for any of my crazy white ancestors.

i think that you should grow up and crawl back under the stone you came from until you can put together a constructive question. instead of inciting racism. YOU are the only person who has a problem with the colour of your skin! get yourself a life we dont need people like you on yahoo!

Ethiopians are pretty universally considered as black. Though many of them have lighter skin than west Africans because over the millenia they have mixed with Arabs.
