Or a black person that licks white people's butts
I find that most don't understand what this means, i hear uncle toms say
Oh it's because i speak "proper" or "go to college" or "make good grades" or dress "a certain way"
Nope that isn't it. What about blacks that do all of these things, yet still call you a "tom". It's because of your ways of thinking, and how you treat other blacks. Has nothing to do with your style or mannerisms, or anything else
It has to do with how you act towards blacks vs. whites
9X's out of 10 when a black person hangs with mostly whites, then YES that is a sign of a tom. Why? because white people always have a way of eventually showing their true colors. And usually these tom's brush them off and continue associating with them.

An uncle tom is a black person who goes out of his way to please white people, to make them accept him and to do their bidding, all the while denouncing his own race.

Don't know if that's correct or not.

But I'm interested in knowing more about your theory of "true colors." Do they also apply to other races, or are whites the only ones who are supposed to have ulterior motives?

The perception of an Uncle Tom is like that of an ever-going tug-of-war. On the one hand, you have Black individuals who make Uncle Tomedness to be a behavioural trait in which "they are better than everyone else" - because they speak with a certain dialect, or went to a certain school, or married to an Asian/White person, supposedly, it makes them out to be better than anyone else. On the other, you have Black individuals who use the phrase "Uncle Tom" as a direct illustration of their own laziness - to denounce motivation and laud gangster and ghetto behaviour as some sort of sign of 'belonging to the clique'.

An Uncle Tom, in its fundamental roots, is simply someone who does something deliberately to gain acceptance from White people. If a Black person marries a White person in the hopes of climbing the corporatist hierarchical ladder, that is exemplary of the trait of being an Uncle Tom, considering that the positioning of employees on the corporatist hierarchical ladder tends to be decided by a White male. If a Black person wears certain clothing items/makeup items to appear more "White" (usually done in self-hatred, as it is believed that flaunting one's natural features, which are Black, can spark judgement from others), that is exemplary of Uncle Tomedness.

From some of the scenarios above, it is conspicuous to see that certain behavioural traits can only be understood if knowing their ulterior motives. If a Black person lightens one's skin, is that immediately a sign of Uncle Tomedness because it is believed that "looking more White" will garner more acceptance, when in actuality certain individuals 'lighten' their skin to even out certain pigmentation problems? It is one reason why I am hesitant to immediately call someone "Uncle Tom" or the like because until I know the ulterior motives behind a decision, there is not enough evidence to conclude on how someone's characteristics are. I must say that this labeling isn't unique to Black people - the term "Liberal" is often used (although a misapplication) by certain White individuals to convey a White person who "kisses the rear" of a Black person.

If you want to know what a uncle tom is read uncle toms cabin and then check out the video good bye uncle tom you can find both on the web. read the book and watch the movie then get back too me tell me how the book and movie relates to the mind set of people of color today around the global who think they aren't ni**ggers till the get there ni**gger wake up call.

the house ni**GER /Field Ni**GER mentality is deeply root it is what it is most our unaware of their behavior some just don't care......that's why most people of color refuse to tie their roots back to Africa because of negative stereotypes deeply embedded or have some negative programing form our education in this alien system ....but I feel you its a different between playing the game till you can break free and living and believing in the illusion a uncle tom lives the illusion while a spook sits behind the door waiting for the right time to break free and break others free of the spell.

and people of color can not be racist because we don't have the power to keep another race of people down or have the ability to oppress anyone. stop with the reverse psychology like it wrong to hate the condition we as a people are in mentally physically and spritually untill you start to hate your condition you won't change your condition that the whole lie of keeping it hood ghetto they want you to love your condition and they have nubians who are no longer living these condition sell you the condition wake up and its not about emulating those who oppressed thats uncle tomism its about going back to that mind state when we knew who we were we have to go back to egypt and nubia summeria Mu and Alantis where we were GODS thats the mind set we as a people need go back to ancient Maya and the Aztec when we knew are divine state and lived as GODS

A character in a Harriet Beecher Stowe novel that most people who use that term haven't read.

I also consider "Uncle Tom" to be a term misused by the Lina's and Jamal's of the world to reference all those that don't kiss their rear or think, look, and act just like them.

People of all colors treat you the way they do because of YOU. You just use your skin as a scapegoat to distract from reality and deflect blame.

I really dont fit the stereotype of a black girl as the media portrays us to be so i have been called an uncle tom for simply speaking a certain or the fact that ive gone to predominantly white schools. Or even because ive dated white guys. Those are stupid reasons and i dont hesitate to tell someone what a stupid ****** they are for saying things like that when they dont know me. "Sell out" is another popular term used by black people who are too small minded to think outside outside of the box and comply to the standards socitiety sets for them. YEAH. ive definitely had some words with people like this. I am not one to hold my tongue when i feel like someone is questioning my identity. So im a "sell out" because i dont live in the ghetto, I'm not on drugs, I speak differently than you, I listen to music outside of the Rap/Hiphop genres, etc.? WHAT?! These are usually the people who dont care to educate themselves about their ancestry, the very history that makes them black. These are usually the people who go around embodying the stereotypes that hold us back and who dont care to better themselves. So to correct you some people do use these kinds of things to call people names like Uncle Tom or Sell Out.

To say that white people eventually show their true colors shows a sense of racism on your part. So are you implying that your everyday white people are somehow bad people? What do you mean by "true colors"? So if a black person associates with terrible black people who are racist against whites, have inferiority complexes about themselves, are ignorant, steal, kill, etc. and they continue to associate with them, what name will you make up for them? Or do they get a free pass because they have a bit more melanin in their skin? I dont follow your logic.

I DO know this. I know that Im damn sure not going to let some ignorant *** black person on the street calling me an uncle tom make me feel bad about who I am. I pity them for judging me because i choose friends based on my surroundings, their character and merit, etc. and not the color of their skin. I dont tolerate ignorance or racism from white people but im supposed to take it from my own people? Hell no. Anyone judging me for stupid things like that can kiss my ***.
