Freemasons, What does the square symbolize?

Question

I've read that the square represents the squaring of your virtues. What does that mean? Also, Could it possibly mean morality, honesty, and fair dealing? I read that somewhere but I wasn't sure it was true. Thanks for the help.

"squaring of your virtues" isn't quite accurate, but you have the correct understanding. it does deal with how you treat others and how you interact with them; give/get a "square deal". you could expand it to mean "treat others how you would have them treat you" --- the golden *rule*.

the Square of Virtue is a rule and guide to conduct with others and especially a Masonic Brother. You are on the right track as others have said.

You have it correct. As the square was applied to a cut stone to see if it was square and accurate for use, so you are supposed to mentally check your actions against the square of Virtue to see if they are honest. In another part of Masonry we are also told not to immediately reject actions or opinions that do not fit our "Square" without stopping to consider if there may be a place for them.

the quick answer is to symbolize the floor of King Solomons Temple. Thumbs as much as the two Lili and tatim for sturdy solutions. My motel grow to be initially carpeted, yet we've moved to a clean development with checkered pavement - even however the tiles are extra of a brown and a "color previously generic as white". LOL
