Question:
Is this a fair understanding of white privilege?

From what I understand, us whites have a privilege in predominately white societies, we will see mostly white people on TV, products will be suited more so for white people, as a white person we are likely to be trusted over other races, and the such. It is not a means to make others feel guilty about being white, it is just a fact of the societies many of us live in.

If this is what white privilege is, then I would agree. But wouldn't that mean there is Asian privilege is Asia, Black privilege in parts of Africa, Arab privilege in parts of the middle east, etc, etc, etc?

Please mind, I don't think any race should be treated above others in any society. I am just trying to figure out exactly what it means, when people say I have white privilege. Please don't throw accusations out, that I hate white people, or I hate non white people. I would rather learn more about this topic than have it turn into a flame war.

Yes, whatever country you're in the primary people there will have privilege.

Chinese people have Chinese privilege in China, etc...

I don't know what's the point in bringing this up privilege of people in their own countries.

No, it's not just the facts of the society that many of us live in. If you look across the world, the idea that whites are superior is spreading to every corner of the globe even into Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the Caribbean where whites are not the majority. White privilege goes much deeper than the things that you mention. A stronger more accurate list would include:

1. Getting hired first and getting fired last.

2. Getting promotions based on skin color rather than on qualifications.

3. Having their college applications approved while others are rejected.

4. Being treated better by the police than other races

These are not things that are enjoyed in other nations where other races are the majority. In those countries, social status is decided by money and class as opposed to race a lot of the times. So those groups who come in with the cash from Western nations have an equal chance to participate in the privileges that are enjoyed by the residents that live there. Also white people have spread their influence and ideology across the globe by placing companies such as McDonald's, gas stations, Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc. in various nations while also using the internet and TV to shape the views of other races. In exchange for oil and other resources, Western nations will exchange products, ideas, technology, music, inventions, etc.. that will promote the white race and raise their status in the eyes of those from other nations.

Means you`re judged differently. You`re innocent until you prove otherwise. Not so with blacks. Blacks are guilty until some other whites proves otherwise. All others races (collectively) are view with suscpicion.

Why do all races as a whole get a bad rap for actions of a few except the white race?

Ex. Muslims supposedly attack 9/11 now all Muslims are potential terrorist. Same thing with American Japanese in WW2. These are just a few examples of many. If other races followed the same logic whites should be shunned not privileged. With Hitler and the American slave trade being the most atrocious crimes ever committed against humanity. But your not (ever ask y), that`s white privilege.

Something like that. (And yes, in Asia, there is "Asian privilege".)

Basically "[fill in the blank] privilege" means "no matter what you are actually like, if you are the in the majority of the people wherever you live, people will be less likely to judge you harshly". (For instance, going with "white privilege", you could be a serial murderer (unknown of course) and the majority of white people will think something like "what a nice boy" while - often unconsciously - classifying someone non-white as "someone to watch out for" even if that non-white person is honest and gets very good grades.)

Yes.

And for that reason, there are many black people who will never stop calling America racist until they somehow manage to devote 50% of the attention to 15% of the population.

There really is no benefit to being white, other than being called a racist, and being denied from university with equal marks as a black student who got admitted.

Yes that is what it means. But only white people are ever accused of this.

Also, TS, the holocaust and the American slave trade are not the worst crimes of humanity. Ever heard of chairman Mao? Joseph stalin?

i think there's asian privilege in places like japan. if you're a woman and non japanese you're more likely to be harrased over there. i know ethnicities like the Ainu face discrimination over there.

idk about "black privilege" you can't forget europe fĂșcked over africa a great deal. and a lot of the goverments over there are western oriented and not really suitable for them which is why a lot of these countries are underdeveloped.

I don't care for white privilege, or any racial privilege

for that matter. I strive for success regardless.

You are wrong about Asian privilege. Many Asians favor whites over anyone else and welcome whites into their countries with open arms.
