I went to a trip in New Mexico and I saw a lot of Navajos walking in the mall I made a friend and I thought he was Asian so I took a picture for my friends back home because I found it interesting. Why do they look similar to Asians?

they originated from the same people in Asia..I think it's the Mongoloid race

EDIT: the reason for the changes you see today in the skin, etc is migration to other areas...the things that stay the same are dark brown eyes, black straight hair and eye and face shape

lmao!! You think Jackie Chan is the stereotypical Asian to compare native Americans to?! :-D Native Americans are descendants of the people who crossed the Bering Strait Bridge, so that's why they have Mongoloid features.

the kid in the second photo that you DIDN'T take btw is Kim Hyun Joong. sure doesn't sound like any navaho name i've ever heard. both of them are KOREAN.

why are you trying to convince people that indigenous people of north america are asians in disguise. we aren't. we come right from this continent and your own scientists are beginning to realize we have been right all along.

DNA has proven we are NOT from asia, but instead some natives did migrate the other way into asia thousands of years ago which is why some of the markers we carry are found there in the northeastern regions of the asian continent.

now arecheologists are discovering that we were here when the supposed migration out of africa occurred. these recent findings are turning everything popularly believed about human origins on its head. now scientists are looking at the idea that homosapiens developed in more than one place around the same time.

2008 - An international team of geoarchaeologists have discovered footprints in central Mexico that place the presence of early humans in the Americas further back than previously thought: around 40,000 years ago. The discovery helps to settle a long-standing debate as to when humans first came to the Western Hemisphere.

next time tey making friends qith a Navajo, cause that person ain't Navajo. We are not Asian we didn't cross the barring straight etc etc. Time for you all to update your education. Please read Kanien's links. This info has been comming out since the 70&s but just recently accepted and more is being found all the time. You'll all have to give up your justification theory and accept the truth.

They're distantly related. Most scientists say Native Americans migrated from there before they came to America. I sometimes get Native Americans and some darker Asians confused but I can tell the difference most of the time.

In Anthopology, Asians and Native Americans are grouped together as Mongoloids.

Edit: He doesn't even look slightly Native American...

The theory is thousands of years ago people from what is now known as Asia walked to what is now known as North America. They crossed the Bering Straits when sea levels were lower or an ice age was occurring and the straits were solid ice. When the land bridge went away or the ice bridge melted, both the people in Asia and North America moved on separately.

Also, when those people walked here from Asia, there may have already been people here in North America. They intermarried and interbred and today's Native Americans are the result of that.

Because they came from Asian stock. The Americas were the last continent settled by people, and they came across the land bridge from Russia to Alaska. Took about a thousand years to get all the way to the tip of S. America. Exterminating every large mammal they met along the way, BTW. The only things that survived humanity's arrival were the things that could fight back.

Because thousands of years ago the ancestors of the Native Americans used to live in Asia; they crossed over the Bering Strait and made their way into North and South America.

That's one theory as to why some Native Americans look Asian. As to weather or not that theory is correct is disputable. Some say that it's a wrong assumption while others say that the theory seem logical and is correct. I guess it depends on your own personal point of view.

if you compare the DNA of native americans, from south, central, and north america, almost ALL the native males who are unmixed fall into a geneticpopulation known as Y-dna Hg 'Q'.

This DNA Hg is also found in a (today) small tribe of asiatic Siberians called the 'KETS', who reside in siberia directly accross from what is today Alaska.

http://www.eki.ee/books/redbook/kets.shtml

very few NON-SIBERIAN asians / non-kets have this 'Q' Hg..

most asian (chinese, japanese, korean etc..) males are in seperate genetic Hg 'C' or Hg 'O' genetically..

the native american 'Q' carriers appear asian,

but the Q Hg is actually a brother Hg, and more closely related, to the Eurasian 'R' Hg, which is the DNA haplotype found among 75% of europeans..

thus in spite of physical appearance, the native 'Q' diverged from the european / eurasian 'R' populations much more recently in time than from other asian-appearing populations

The ancestors of Native Americans came from Asia.

Wow, he looks totally Asian. I think it's because Native Americans migrated from Asia.

They are of the Mongoloid race so some may have traces of Asian features.
