Can someone tell me why a person like paris hilton is "celebrated"? For what? Would you admit to being a fan?

My guess would be that she's a celebrity because she has a really good publicist, and because if you tell teens to like someone often enough, a lot of them will. Not all of them, obviously, but enough to make her a celebrity.
I wouldn't admit to being a fan because to me she seems even more useless than other celebrities, who've at least made their money acting/singing/etc. She made her money....oh wait, she didnt, at all, that was her dad. Useless!

Unfortunately, my friend, by default we humans are followers by nature and we are suckers for hype. She is the heir of a long-standing hotel empire throughout the world. (Hilton Hotels) She had instant fortune and fame. I think the fascination has somewhat to do with our infatuation right now with reality shows and the like. She is one of the publics current reality show. We'll celebrate when she succeeds and we will laugh when she fails. Thank the great Television.

i thought she was a "celebutante" - which is a celebrity who is famous for being a debutante - aka rich spoiled brat - and really nothing else. Paris has graced the magazines for as long as i can remember - i first saw her at about 15 or 16 in either vogue or W in the society section. she is boring and trite and i think nicky is much more interesting. and her perfume stinks to holy heck.

I wouldnt admit to being a fan, she's a socialite and one with a lot of money. So people are going to follow her and what she does. Her actions really hold no importance though.

The media dictates, and Americans pick up from there. Thanks to the media - the entertainment sections.
