That's probably due to the fact that they have stronger cultural identities than most European-Americans do. Unlike many Americans, they realize that "white" and "black" are colors, rather than cultures. Making skin color and ethnicity out to be the same thing is just so sad and so wrong! They might prefer being called Europeans, or more specifically, French, Russian, Italian, German, etc... You might wanna ask them what they would like themselves to be called.

Maybe you said that they were all white, and people of different colors disliked it? I don't know it's strange, because unless what some people said, we never talk about caucasian in France (I'm French). We say white. The first time I heard this word was in the United States, and it was also the first time I was asked to tell my skin color on forms. I've never seen any French people being offended when called white (or black). We are way less politically correct about that, so I don't understand.

while you're already examining Spanish, then i could propose French and Portuguese. understanding Spanish definetely helps studying French and Portuguese. that is by way of fact A)you will see some comparable Spanish words in French, and B) Portuguese sounds merely approximately the comparable as Spanish. i could bypass with German too. German has alot of similarities with English. It makes it greater convenient.

I think that, if one had to designate exactly what "white" is, it would be Americans of European descent. The main reason I would think this is that many people of European ancestry in the States are a mix. I have one friend who's German, Swedish and English. She's no one nationality and it can be difficult and time consuming to have to describe someone's background by every nation their ancestors have come from. For many people, you'll almost literally be naming every European country.
People in Europe tend, at least in my experience, to describe themselves as the country they were either born in or spent the majority of their childhood in, not by their race. Some even find the word "race" to be offensive. Many people born, for example, in France, regardless of their ancestors' nationalities, will generally refer to themselves as French.
It's just a personal opinion/conjecture.

There are truly only 3 races. Caucasian, Mongoloid, and *******. Sorry yahoo always blocks n*e*g*r*o*i*d.
All peoples originate in Africa if you go back far enough. There are also blacks from Australia.
Native Americans, Asians, and Pacific islanders are Mongoloid
Europeans are mostly Caucasian.
To whoever gave the thumbs down... Truth is hard to find when the educational system and left wing media refuse to report it. Nationality is confused with race all too often anymore.

a race, Caucasian. german french, russian, just simply states where the person is from. I guess they get angry because they feel like you are comparing them to white Americans. There could be a french black person, or a white french person

White are people who have white skin and Caucasian facial features. Their culture comes from Europe and South West Asia.

Only in America do we describe a race of people by a color. So, other nationalities may want to be described as their actual nationality. Instead of White, they want to be called German, French, etc. That's what they actually are, so it makes sense.

I don't get offended when someone calls me white. It is caucasian. I don't think that most people do. It is just like calling an african american black.

I'm white in skin color so I'm white. I'm American. If you ask me my ancestry I have a bunch of different things so it's easier just to say white or caucasian.
