Why is Cameron Diaz not touted as Latina, while Jessica Alba (who is a sellout) is?

Jessica Alba, who is 1/4 Latina, looks at herself as less Latina then Cameron Diaz who is 1/2 Latina. Yet, people are upset that Alba doesn;t want to claim Latina, while there are Latina Beauties out there that are ignored by the Latin US Media. Lovely ladies like Alexis Bledel, Julie Gonzalo and Joanna Garcia, are FULL Latinas yet they're not even mentioned much or at all as being Latina role models. They speak fluent Spanish, are proud and mention their Latina roots all the time, yet Jessica Alba, Eva Longoria, J-LO and Rosario Dawson get more press, and they do not even speak any Spanish!!!

My only guess is because Alba, J-LO, Longoria and Dawson are darker Latinas while Bledel, Gonzalo and Garcia are white Latinas that do not fit the mold.

Is this true? Why aren't these Latina hotties being touted as great Latina rolemodels?

Jessica "don't call me latina" alba is being seen as Latina because A. she has mexican roots. B. She clearly looks like a latina and not white and C. She is a bigger Celebrity than Alexis [i know who is she others might not] and the others [i have no idea who they are.

Cameron Diaz claims her latina heritage all the time. The media prolly doesn't because she looks like a white latina as oppose to Jessica who looks a "typical" latina.

JLO, EVA and Rosario again are BIGGER stars than Alexis and the other chicks you mentioned therefore they get more press.

Jessica s on fire no matter what she says she is. Cameron has always been hot, but thinking of her as Latina makes her seem hotter, because Latina women are the hottest on the planet!

Jessica Alba is actually 1/2 Latina. Both her father's parents are of Mexican descent according to Wikipedia:

Besides that point, you yourself hit the hammer right on the nail. The U.S. media wants to portray the typical Latinas as the Latinas with a tan. Other Latinas who are of white or even black complexion do not get roles to portray them as Latinas because the U.S. media thinks they do not fill their model.

By the way, as a Hispanic I have to inform you that Eva Longoria and J-LO do speak Spanish. Not sure on the others.

Usually, it would be the other way around if we were back in Hollywood of the 1950-70s. In this case, I'm not sure why they'd not consider these women role models.

First of all, why does everybody always group all Hispanics together as though they're one race. Hispanics can be White, Native American, Black or any combination of the above.

Now to answer your question...People who are 50% (or less) of any ethnicity or race, will almost always identify with either one side of their heritage or the other. It all depends on how a person is raised and which culture had the biggest influence on the individuals upbringing. Sometimes, later in life a person will discover his or her roots and begin to explore the other side of the their ethnic heritage. It's up to the individual.

Oh, and Ava...Diaz is a Spanish surname.
