I mean arent they just dark skinned? Or is this supposed to be another layer of racial hierarchy...

This guy on Tyra who IMHO is darker than the average black American is slaming someone for being dark skinned while hes "brown skinned".. I would consider both him and Tyra dark skin..."light skin" would be reserved for folks like Chris Brown..

Light skin African slaves were very common (merchandise) during Roman Empire , Spanish rule, knights of the temple etc., where after each war or invasion they were taken as slaves along w/ dark skin dwellers. Most of them were from North Africa. The story of Spartacus and his son, gives an insight to the subject. If Ur Q was, were they been shipped to America? I haven't heard or read about such thing. May be because it was safer and shorter in course to head toward the west southern coasts of Africa,Where the west coast is merely a desert, and the Northern coast was full of Hostile big war-ships. Edit : Sorry, I missed the point . But Yes African skin varies, some of them R as white as any Anglo-saxon, others R very dark, and in between U have all ( shades). So when slaves were shipped to America, they must 'd been in a variety of skin color.

There are very notable differences between the 3 skin tones.

(EDIT: ABA, all these people would be considered black and all of these people would also be considered "dark skinned" in comparison to the average human. For example, white people with a pink undertone and a yellow undertone would still be considered light skin even though their skin tone is notably different.)

What do you consider yourself?

I consider myself brown skinned because I am not dark nor am I light. Brown skinned is like a "balance" between the two, you could say.

She was slamming him because he was being outright ignorant. It was more than skin color, he insulted that man terribly.

Newsflash, black people : They call us all *******. So get up and do something useful rather than distinguishing your skin tone.
